Your Quinceañera is a very spiritual and personal event. As you know, this event is steeped in tradition and full of symbolism. There are many decorations, but few of the many accessories and decorations are as important as the Quince Doll. The Quince Doll, also called a “last doll” or “ultima muñeca”, is typically made out of porcelain and is designed specifically to commemorate this 15th birthday event. This doll is used not only to memorialize the actual ceremony, but also the Quinceañera herself. In some Latin communities, the Quince doll is passed down through generations and cherished as a symbolism of purity and chastity. The ultimate symbol of transition takes place when a quince doll is presented to the Quinceañera. The doll is the last she would ever receive. Just as a bride tosses a garter, the Quinceañera sometimes tosses the doll to a group of younger girls, symbolizing her final step over the threshold to womanhood. |
